Swan Hill

September 20, 2009
Hi Everyone,
well we made it into Swan Hill under police escort through the town and to the Riverside Park for an official welcoming by the mayor of Swan Hill.

Moira, Marg Smith and Father Peter from Swan Hill were there and of fantastic assistance to us and the camels and a huge word of thanks has to go to Father Peter. His kindness, generosity and willingness to assist has been outstanding and we cannot thank him enough. Also much thanks has to go to Claire from the Swan Hill Council for her hard work assisting the expeditions success here in Swan Hill.

The night we arrived, Moira gave a speech to a crowd of people Father Peter organised to hear her story and I also told my story of the expedition. That evening we raised nearly $3400 for the Children First Foundation. Thank you to all of the participants for their kind and generous offerings to assist Moira with her invaluable work changing and saving children’s lives.

Our next major stop-over is at Echuca, then onto Shepparton. Keep an eye out for the camel expedition if you are from that region and help us to reach the $100,000 target for the CFF.

It looks like some rain is heading our way so delays for our arrival into Echuca may occur.

Take care everyone and once again thanks to Moira, Marg, Father Peter, the Swan Hill Council and the kind and generous people here in Swan Hill.

All of our love,

Russell and Ros

Mildura to Mangangatang

September 13, 2009

Camels Leaving Mildura

Hi Everyone,
THANK YOU MILDURA. Especially to Gary and Donna (Future expedition cameleers). You guys made the Mildura leg for us and the camels as comfortable and safe as possible and we cannot thank you enough for your assistance and friendship.
Also thanks to Julie Cooper from the Bendigo Bank for her kindness and assistance in organising everything. You are a true gem.

We left Mildura and passed through the orange growing region of Australia. So many terrific people and with many stories to tell.

One lady told us of a story 19 years ago when she and her husband had to come over to Melbourne RCH from Tasmania for the birth of their son. They had no money to live on whilst their son was in hospital. The met Moira and from out of her own pocket, she supported them during this period. 19 years ago…..and still going. We know when hearing story after story about Moira’s life and kindness we are supporting a lady who needs all of our support for the work she does from the kindness of her heart.

We met up with Kieth and Rhonda near Manangtang who offered help and assistance with watering the camels. Thanks Guys.

The day we reached Manangatang, we had a horrific dust storm with temperatures in the mid thirtys. The folk here have been awsome and there is no doubt about the true spirit of the bush people even when times are tough all around.
We had to rest the following day as the camels and ourselves were knocked around by the storm so much, we have very little reserve of energy left. Lets hope the weather is a bit kinder from now on.

Our next stop is at Swan Hill where we will rest for a day before heading to Echuca and then Shepparton.

I have to admit, the whole trek is starting to take it’s toll on us and everything we do is getting harder. I guess it’s the last 100 meters of the marathon that is the hardest. We are probably at that stage now. Still, meeting with so many terrific people along the way eases the exhaustion and pain we are suffering.

Take care everyone and please pass this web address to others and keep the donations coming to the Children First Foundation. They need all they can get to help as many as possible.

All of our love

Russell and Ros

Arriving In Victoria

September 3, 2009

Moira Kelly, Kids, Ros, camels and Mildura Kids

We’ve made it into Victoria…………..

Hi everyone, and thank you to everyone who came along to the welcome to Victoria function for the expedition. It was a terrific day and very exciting. Moira Kelly, a couple of her kids, Marg Smith and heaps of terrific people from Mildura were there along with a heap of the media.

We crossed over the bridge in fine style…..meaning the camels behaved themselves. Thanks to the N.S.W. Police who assisted us by blocking the bridge of traffic whilst we crossed. Much thanks to Gary Petty, who is also a cameleer, who organised a paddock for the camels as well as assisted us with the police escort, council matters and was with us all of the way for the crossing of the borders. Thanks also to the people of Mildura who patiently waited whilst we crossed the mighty Murray River.

Meeting Moira and the kids was truely an honor and one of the most exciting moments in this entire journey. This was the first time we have met her and talked with her. Her work is priceless and it was so evident her love for the kids. She deserves all of our thanks for her selfless work. She is a passionate and wonderful human with a fantastic heart for kids.

We met with the deputy Mayor of Mildura, the kids from St Josephs and loads of people from Mildura

We next head to Swan Hill and should be there within two weeks time.

Keep a lookout for the camel train and keep the donations going at:
